Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 24, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Legalese EdTech Philippines Inc. ("legalese.ph", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you use legalese.ph (the "Service"), in line with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173, the "DPA").
2. Information We Collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored in hashed form, never in plain text).
- Usage data: the cases you search for and view, kept as your personal case history within the Service.
- Technical data: standard server log data such as IP address, browser type, and access timestamps.
We do not currently collect payment card data ourselves; if paid subscriptions are introduced, payment details will be handled directly by a third-party payment processor, not stored on our servers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Provide and maintain the Service, including your account and search history;
- Manage your free trial and, later, any subscription status;
- Communicate service-related updates to you;
- Monitor, secure, and improve the Service; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, the necessity of processing to perform our contract with you (providing the Service you signed up for), and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the Service.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with the following categories of third-party processors, solely to operate the Service:
- Google Cloud (Vertex AI): case text is sent to Vertex AI to generate case digests.
- Amazon Web Services: our application and database infrastructure is hosted on AWS.
- Payment processor (future): if paid subscriptions launch, a third-party payment processor will handle payment transactions.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of legalese.ph or others.
6. Data Storage, Location, and Retention
Your data is stored on infrastructure located in Singapore. We retain your account and usage data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Case digests derived from public domain court decisions are not personal data and are retained indefinitely to serve future searches.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords, to protect your data. Your login session is authenticated using a token stored in your browser (not a tracking cookie). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012
As a data subject under the DPA, you have the right to:
- Be informed that your personal data is being processed;
- Access your personal data;
- Object to or withdraw consent for processing;
- Correct inaccurate or outdated personal data;
- Erase or block your personal data under certain conditions (including requesting account deletion);
- Data portability, where applicable; and
- Lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) if you believe your rights have been violated.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@legalese.ph.
9. Cookies and Local Storage
legalese.ph authenticates you using a token stored in your browser's local storage rather than tracking cookies. We do not currently use third-party advertising or analytics cookies. If this changes, we will update this Policy.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from, individuals under 18 years of age.
11. International Data Transfers
Because we use Google Cloud Vertex AI to generate digests, case text may be processed on servers located outside the Philippines. We take reasonable steps to ensure such processors maintain appropriate data protection standards.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Service. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
